Summer Camps 2020

Summer at ELM 2020

Adventures in Bookland for Ages 3-7

8 Weeks: June 22nd-August 13th

Children benefit from a wide variety of literature. Aside from cognitive skills acquired that help children to succeed in a school or work setting, Donna Norton (2010) identifies the value of literature for young children in her book Through the Eyes of a Child.  She writes that children’s literature is important because it:

  • provides students with opportunities to respond to literature and develop their own opinions
  • gives students appreciation of their own cultural heritage as well as those of others
  • helps to develop emotional intelligence and creativity
  • nurtures growth and development of personality and social skills
  • transmits important literature and themes from one generation to the next

This summer at ELM we will celebrate and experience great literature. In addition, children will have opportunities for practicing valuable reading and writing skills, Mathematics, STEM activities, Music, Art, and Movement.
